According to the new pricing decree that was issued by the Government on September 18, 2009 to apply as of December 04, 2009, prices of 20 year-old products with an ex-factory price above 6.79 TL must be revised according to reference prices. An examination in connection with the foregoing disposition is underway at the General Directorate of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy of the Ministry of Health. As said examination, which involves comprehensive analysis and comparison of reference drug prices in Europe, has not been completed, manufacturers are unable to raise invoice for a number of their products which have not been assigned a price yet.
It is known that recent news in the press and media that some drugs have been withdrawn from the market are linked with the above situation.
Nevertheless, it is presumed that currently, pharmacies do have in stock a large majority of products whose price is currently under examination. To prevent any inconvenience to patients from product unavailability at pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies are taking appropriate steps to ensure that requests from patients and pharmacies for such products are met by wholesalers.
